Tree Service Questions, Answered

Common questions about pricing, permits, pruning timing, stump grinding, and emergency response in Yolo County.

How do I get a free tree service estimate in Yolo County?

Call Evergreen Enterprises at (530) 662-0547 or submit the form on our Contact page. We schedule an on-site walkthrough at 27830 CR 23, Esparto, CA 95627 or at your property, review access, tree condition, and cleanup needs, then provide a written, itemized estimate at no cost and with no obligation.

How much does tree service cost?

Pricing depends on tree size, species, lean, proximity to structures and power lines, equipment access, and how much debris hauling is required. Small pruning jobs are usually the least expensive, while large hazard removals near buildings require cranes or bucket trucks and cost more. Every Evergreen Enterprises estimate is written and itemized so you see exactly what is included before work begins.

Do you haul away the branches, logs, and debris?

Yes. Standard cleanup is included in our estimates. We chip brush on site with our chippers, load logs with our grapple loader and log trucks, rake the work area, and leave your property clean. If you want the wood left for firewood or the chips left as mulch, just tell your crew leader.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in California?

It depends on your city or county. Many jurisdictions protect heritage, native oak, and street trees, and some require a permit before removal. We help identify whether your tree is likely protected and what documentation is typically needed, and our arborist consulting service can provide a written report to support a permit application.

What is the difference between tree trimming and tree pruning?

Trimming generally refers to shaping a tree or clearing limbs for space and appearance, while pruning is the selective removal of specific branches to improve structure, health, and safety. Evergreen Enterprises follows ANSI A300 pruning standards, so cuts are made at the correct point to protect the branch collar and encourage proper healing.

When is the best time of year to prune trees in the Central Valley?

Late winter through early spring, while trees are dormant, is ideal for most species because wounds close quickly and structure is easy to see. Dead, broken, or hazardous limbs can be removed safely at any time of year. Avoid heavy summer pruning on stressed trees during extreme Central Valley heat.

How often should mature trees be pruned?

Most mature shade trees benefit from pruning every three to five years, while young trees benefit from structural pruning every two to three years. Fast-growing species and trees near roofs, driveways, or power lines may need attention more often.

Do you top trees?

No. Topping removes the leader and large amounts of the canopy, which causes decay, weak regrowth, and long-term hazard. Instead we use crown reduction, thinning, and proper cleanup cuts to reduce height and weight while keeping the tree structurally sound.

Is stump grinding included with tree removal?

Stump grinding is quoted as a separate line item because not every customer wants it. If you plan to replant, install irrigation, pour concrete, or mow over the area, we recommend grinding. Tell us during the estimate and we will include it in the written price.

How deep do you grind a stump?

We typically grind six to twelve inches below grade, deeper when the area will be replanted or paved. Surface roots radiating from the stump can also be ground down on request so the area finishes flat.

What happens to the hole and the grindings?

Grinding produces a mound of wood chips mixed with soil. We can backfill the void with the grindings and rake it level, or haul the material away and leave the hole ready for clean topsoil if you plan to plant grass or a new tree.
